Studies after studies – by Stephen Covey, Peter Drucker, Dr. Deming, Tom Peters and many more business gurus – prove that successful businesses follow a set of “truths” or principles that make them successful in the market place. The question is: Are there similar principles that make a business long-lasting? If they are there, what are they? Where and how do we find them?
At AMBICA, we are on a quest to find these principles. Of the many such “Endurance Principles” we have found, one of the most important ones is what’s called the Art of Self Discovery.
What is it the Art of Self Discovery and how does it help us build a long-lasting business?
When we study the longest lasting civilizations of the world – Roman, Greek, Egypitian, Chinese, ancient Indian and many others – we find that they have one thing in common – they all share a passion for artistic pursuits. Music, writing, poetry, sculpture, paintings, drama – these are all woven into their everyday lives.
Why is that?
A while ago I saw a book in a book store that was about painting pictures as a healing process. It showed how to paint creatively to get in touch with your deepest emotions, thoughts and your deepest Self. The creative pursuit puts us in touch with the process of self-discovery – finding the deepest essence of who we are. That’s why such pursuits are so addictive and people are so taken over by them.
It’s not just a handful of people who engage in this process of self-discovery, by the way. There is a great interest from those who don’t possess the specific talents for such arts. They listen to the music, admire the sculpture or lose themselves in a great painting.
How does this principle of Self Discovery apply to your business? That's what we will discover in the next article.
